It all started when…
The Mayor’s Guides have branched out into Oakham, Rutland and we are proud to bring you a tour of this idyllic county town. Rutland has a wonderful past of buildings and characters, tales and stories to share, punishments and crimes. Add in St Mary’s Church, the original school building from 1584 and Oakham Castle - England’s most complete Norman great hall and you have an impressive tour ahead of you.
Join us at 11am on Fridays during March - October 2026 for a tour of this local county town. Tours leave the Rutland County Museum and finish at the Oakham Castle where you can take a look around its wonderful interior and amaze at over 230 horseshoes and partake of a cuppa or even lunch at the Castle Cottage cafe located at the back of the castle at the end.
